A University Centre Barnsley lecturer has been made technical adviser on a project to install a sculpture in the new British Embassy in The Yemen.
Steve West, a senior lecturer in BA (Hons) Art and Design, will travel to The Yemen in October to oversee the work on the sculpture, which will stand in the central hall of the Embassy.
The sculpture was designed by Steve’s wife Jenny, who was commissioned by the British Government Collection to undertake the project. Steve and Jenny West will be staying as guests at the British Ambassador’s residency in The Yemen.
Steve says: “We are looking forward to visiting a part of the world that we haven’t seen before. This project entails a lot of hard work, but it’s important that British culture represents itself in countries like The Yemen.”
Steve, who specialises in sculpture, has lectured at many institutions including Manchester Metropolitan University, Leeds Metropolitan University and Nottingham Trent University.
Since the mid 70s Steve’s work has been exhibited widely throughout Britain, Europe and the United States. In 1992 he was elected a member of the Royal Society of British Sculptors.
