Denis Hyams-Ssekasi, senior business tutor at University Centre Barnsley, will be entering the BUPA Great Manchester Run on the 20th May. The BUPA Great Manchester Run is one of the world's fastest growing running events and Britain's premier 10k event.

For Denis this is a first: “This my first run of this kind I ever done. I always wanted to run for a charity but never got my head round to doing it.  About a month earlier my friends suggested it and I finally made the decision to have a go and run the event. I must say those close to me both at home and in staff room were surprised by my decision. I just thought it was a good idea at the time and now I'm panicking!

I intend to raise at least £150 for the charity that helps children in and out of hospital.  MedEquip4Kids is the charity that helps sick and injured children in and out of hospital. The Charity works in partnership with hospitals to improve the care available to children when they suffer illness or have been involved in accidents, by providing paediatric specific medical equipment and funding for projects that enhance the hospital environment for the benefit of children and their families. In many cases this reduces the time spent by children in hospital. MedEquip4Kids also supports community health projects that enable children whenever possible to be treated at home. This helps to reduce stress for children and their families that can surround a stay in hospital”. 

Denis has been training hard for the event by going to the gym twice a week and running twice a day in the morning and evening. UCB staff wish Denis all the best for the run but won’t be around afterwards to tend to the blisters!
