It is one of a series that artist John Ledger has created along with paintings, sketches and modules as part of his apocalyptic art project set 20 years in the future.

John, 23, a final year student on Interdisciplinary Art and Design said that he produced the poster with the tag line ‘Buy now. Rush-hour gas masks. £49.99’ around the town to make people realise that the landscape surrounding them today might not be there in years to come.
He said ‘They’re supposed to prick people’s consciences into realising that if things carry on as they are, environmentally, we could all end up living in a world where we have to dash to the shops for a rush-hour gas mask just to survive.
‘Small towns like us have a tendency to think that because we’re not a city we don’t need to worry about the environment, like it won’t affect us.’
John’s environmental conscious developed a few years later after he read a news story about a meteorite hitting earth and the effect it could have on the planet. He says these posters play a small part in his efforts to raise environmental awareness.
He has masterminded a campaign called Plant A Tree for my Art which encourages local people to plant trees in public spaces in an attempt to turn the town green.
John’s work, including sketches, model and paintings, will go on display at our Graduate Art Exhibition here at the University Centre in June.
