Rugby team, Huddersfield Giants spent the afternoon working with Multimedia degree students at University Centre Barnsley on Tuesday 16 December 2008.

The Giants, who are sponsored by the University of Huddersfield, have recently invested in a plasma screen for the Galpharm Stadium in Huddersfield and approached the University to produce both animations and films which will be used on match days.

The industry standard, technical facilities at the University Centre mean that students have the opportunity to develop a professional project which provides them with invaluable experience when they graduate. The University prides itself on preparing students for employment, not only with the technical skills which they gain throughout their degree, but also with the hands on experience and communication skills that employers demand.

Dave Chatwood, 23 from Monk Bretton, a second year Multimedia degree student at the University Centre and was nominated as Project Manager, ‘This is the biggest project I’ve ever worked on and it’s been a great experience. My confidence has grown so much, not only in the technical and software side of things but also with managing teams of people, deadlines and the professional industry. It really helps me focus on what I want in the future.’

The students will be filming Giants players in a variety of poses against the Centre’s ‘green screen’. The footage will then be edited, animated and developed until the final project will be shown on match days in front of 24,500 fans.
